The Author tries to answer these and other questions to explain the evolutionary role and, starting from this, the importance of the human skin and hairs.

Alfredo Rebora was born in Genoa (Italy) in 1935 and died in 2021. He graduated in Medicine in 1959. He has been full professor in Dermatology and Chairman of Department of Dermatology at University of Genoa from 1982 to 2004 when he retired.
He became Emeritus Professor in 2005. He produced more than 600 scientific articles on dermatology, virology and oncology, and numerous books and monographs on dermatology.
